New conservative PAC has not registered with state

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE (AP) - A new conservative political action committee holding a fundraiser outside Nashville next week has so far failed to register with the state.

The invitation to the Freedom PAC's $50-per-ticket fundraiser on Oct. 3 says the event in Lebanon will honor John Harris, the president of the Tennessee Firearms Association, and health care investor Andy Miller, who spent more than $180,000 to support Lou Ann Zelenik's failed effort to oust U.S. Rep. Diane Black in the Republican primary last year.

John Allyn, the legal counsel to the Tennessee Registry of Election Finance, said state law requires political action committees to register before they receive or spend any money.

The PAC and its treasurer, furniture and appliance retailer A. J. McCall of Lebanon, did not return messages seeking comment.
