5. Superintendents declare 'no confidence' in TNReady -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The superintendents of the state's two largest school districts have declared "no confidence" in TNReady after problems emerged with the standardized assessment.

The Tennessean reports Shelby County Schools Director Dorsey Hopson and Metro Nashville Public Schools Director Shawn Joseph issued the Friday letter that calls for halting the standardized assessment and the convening of an educator working group.

19. Metro scheduled to launch five elementary magnet schools in 2018 -

Metro Nashville Public Schools will have a full plate in 2018, with much of it aimed at continuing to improve student performance and parent satisfaction.

Thanks to a highly competitive $15.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, MNPS will create five more elementary magnet schools (grades K-4) for the 2018-19 school year.

28. Team recommends 100-plus changes for Nashville schools -

NASHVILLE (AP) — A transition team has provided the leader of Nashville Metro Public Schools with more than 100 recommendations to improve student achievement in the district.

Media outlets report that the 47-member transition team was formed in July during Schools Director Dr. Shawn Joseph's first month on the job. It was tasked with informing the new director on the needs of the district.

Scott McCarver, associate operating office for Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital and Clinics, has been named chief operating officer for the Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital.

43. Insurer Aetna lays out concerns about ACA exchange business -

Aetna has joined other major health insurers in sounding a warning about the Affordable Care Act's public insurance exchanges.

The nation's third-largest insurer said Monday that it has been struggling with customers who sign up for coverage outside the ACA's annual enrollment window and then use a lot of care. This dumps claims on the insurer without providing enough premium revenue to counter those costs.

46. Big insurers remain upbeat on fledgling ACA exchanges -

Slipping enrollment and struggling competitors have done little to shake the faith that the nation's biggest health insurers have placed in the Affordable Care Act's public insurance exchanges.

Aetna executives said Thursday that the exchanges, a key element in the overhaul's push to cover millions of uninsured people, remain a good market, even though the insurer's enrollment in them fell 11 percent to about 814,000 people in the third quarter. Leaders of the Blue Cross-Blue Shield insurer Anthem have voiced a similar sentiment, and UnitedHealth said earlier this month that it will expand into 11 more exchanges next year.
