Davidson County District Attorney Glenn Funk is suing a Nashville investigative reporter over 2016 stories on a lawsuit Funk claims accused him of soliciting a bribe, extortion and blackmail.

21. Court: Media can't access police files during criminal case -

NASHVILLE  (AP) — The Tennessee Supreme Court has ruled that the public is not entitled to access police records while a criminal case is being prosecuted or during an appeal.

In a sweeping opinion written by Justice Sharon Lee, the state's highest court found that state law does not allow access to information contained in police investigative files. The opinion said a state rule of criminal procedure known as Rule 16 exempts those files from the Public Records Act. Only criminal defendants in some instances, and not the media or interested citizens, are allowed access to the files.

25. 3 state appeals judges finalists for Supreme Court vacancy -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Three state appeals judges appointed by Gov. Bill Haslam were selected Tuesday as finalists to fill a vacancy on the Tennessee Supreme Court.

The Governor's Council for Judicial Appointments interviewed nine applicants during a public hearing before narrowing the field to three and sending the names to the Republican governor.

NASHVILLE (AP) - Eight candidates submitted applications with the Tennessee Supreme Court by Friday's deadline to be considered for the next eight-year term as state attorney general.

Tennessee is the only state where the high court appoints the attorney general. The justices will make their choice after public hearings with finalists.

NASHVILLE (AP) - Tennessee Attorney General Bob Cooper announced Monday he will seek another eight-year term after three Democrats were retained on the Supreme Court.

Cooper, a former aide to then-Gov. Phil Bredesen, a Democrat, had not divulged his plans before last week's election in which the three justices fended off a conservative effort to oust them.

NASHVILLE (AP) - Republican Gov. Bill Haslam on Thursday named Criminal Appeals Judge Jeff Bivins to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Tennessee Supreme Court bench.

Bivins, 53, will replace Justice Bill Koch, who is retiring in July to become dean of the Nashville School of Law.

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Governor's Commission for Judicial Appointments is now taking applications to fill an upcoming vacancy on the state Supreme Court.

Justice Bill Koch has announced he is retiring on July 15 to become dean of the Nashville School of Law. Candidates from Middle or West Tennessee can apply through Feb. 21. Koch has served on the state's highest court since 2007.
